Barry Athletic Bowls Club is a section within the long established umbrella club of Barry Athletic Club Limited, which offers cricket, bowls, tennis, football and rowing to its members. Founded in the early 1900's, Barry Athletic Club Limited occupies a large prestigious site at the heart of the seaside resort of Barry Island in South Wales.

Founded in 1911, Barry Athletic Bowls Club has a rich heritage and history as one of the leading clubs in Welsh Bowls. The club boasts one of the finest playing greens in Wales, excellent pavilion and facilities and has produced many players that have represented the club at county, international, European, commonwealth and world level.

The Men's section competes in the East Wales Private Greens League and regularly fields three competitive teams every week during the season. The club is also an affiliated member of the Welsh Bowling Association, the South Vale District Bowling Association, the Vale of Glamorgan County Bowling Association & the Welsh Women's Bowling Association. The Ladies Section is thriving, competing in the structured leagues of Glamorgan and the immediate area. A Mixed team also competes in the Welsh Mixed League.

Barry Athletic Bowls Club has a healthy membership of over 100 members and always welcomes new friends and members to the sport.

The pavilion and full bar facilities are available for private hire when not required for club members.

Through our 113 year history, Barry Athletic Bowls Club is proud and honoured to have produced:

We want Barry Athletic Bowls Club to be regarded by all as a successful, ambitious, well organised and harmonious club, growing its membership and achieving success in all endeavours and activities.

We want to be innovative, looking for new opportunities for the club to prosper and develop strength in depth, competitively, administratively and financially. 

We want to lead, and never to follow.

Our Objectives - what we want to achieve

  • To regularly compete at the highest level of Welsh bowls 
  • To develop and maintain the best green in Wales as recognised by national and county bodies
  • To regularly achieve success and representation at county and national level.
  • To undertake profitable business, recording operating surpluses each year.
  • To develop a sustainable membership model, with evenly distributed age demographics for over and under 50 age groups.
  • To continually enhance the facilities for members and guests.

Our Targets - How we will achieve our objectives 

We will organise our management committee and membership in a way that covers all our activities and development requirements, setting ourselves tasks and activities that contribute to the targets that we set ourselves. We will allocate members to lead these sub groups with the authority to co-opt additional members to support them to achieve our targets.

We will aim to achieve all our targets and objectives by 2025.
