We Will Remember Them.....

Members of the community gathered yesterday for the Act of Remembrance at St Margaret's Church Darenth.
The Act of Remembrance and service, led by Reverend Emma Young included The Fallen: where the names of those who gave their lives during conflict were read out; the Exhortation; Last Post; Two Minutes' Silence; Act of Commitment; Kohima Epitaph and flag-raising, by former Councillor, Dave Carey. Those present then observed the laying of wreaths at the War Memorial before heading to Darenth Hill to visit the Memorial in memory of flying officer Nathaniel John Merriman Barry R.A.F.V.R. of No. 501 Squadrom from South Africa, who lost his life on 7th October 1940. His Hurricane V6800 crashed at Darenth Hill when he was just 22 years old the commemorative stone is one of the few memorials from Churchill dedicated on 26th May 2007 by the Shoreham Aircraft Museum and those present reflected on the poignancy of honouring the fallen.
Parish Chairman, Councillor Nick Weavis, Members of Darenth Parish Council and staff also attended the Remembrance Service on Sunday 12 November 2023. Councillor Weavis said, "It was moving to see so many in attendance".
Royal British Legion representative, Councillor Tom Hicks said, "l would like to thank the community and St Margarets Church for the service to remember the bravery of the fallen and those who suffered so that we are able to live as we do today".
