Pinner Bowling Club Become a member

Welcome!

New members are always welcome at Pinner Bowling Club. We are known as ‘the friendly club in the park’. In the first instance, all we ask you to do is come to the club to meet us for a free ‘taster session’ on the bowling green for an hour or so. That will give you the chance to experience the game and to help decide if you like it. All you’d need to bring is a pair of flat-soled shoes – the club would provide the bowls (a set of four per person) for the session. If you like it and want to join the club, we’d give you a membership form to complete and return. There’s no joining fee, and annual membership is less than £200. A set of your own bowls would cost you between about £50 (second-hand) and £350 (new).

The game of bowls

The photo on this page shows some of our club’s members on the green. The aim of the game is to deliver your bowls as close as possible to a white target ball (or yellow for the visually impaired), called the ‘jack’. The winner of that ‘end’ is the player or team whose bowl or bowls get nearer to the jack than their opponent’s nearest bowl. A match is typically played over 18 ends or the first to reach 21 points (or ‘shots’), depending on the format. The game is all about accuracy and strategy, and is suitable for people aged 9 to 90 years!
