Bishop Monkton resident and author, Colin Philpott, will present a talk about what happened to places that were affected by news events and what happened after the reporters and cameras had left and moved on to the next story? What was the impact of media attention on places in the news?

Colin has visited hundreds of places all over Britain which have been in the news for a variety of reasons to try to find out what happened next. He has also investigated the longer-term impact of events on the people living in places which have been under the media spotlight.

Places featured in the talk will include the scenes of tragic events like the PanAm explosion over Lockerbie, the Grand Hotel IRA bomb in Brighton and the Crystal Palace fire. Also under the spotlight will be places that were famous for other reasons like the Soho loft where John Logie Baird first demonstrated television, the farmer's field where Bob Dylan played in front of 100,000 people and the cliffside where Holbeck Hall Hotel slipped into the sea at Scarborough.
