MEMS Seminar: Eadmer of Canterbury’s Reputation as Historian to the End of the Middle Ages

Dr Charlie Rozier introduces the Medieval and Early Modern Studies Seminar series for spring 2026 with a talk on Eadmer of Canterbury. In anticipation of a volume of essays on the eleventh and twelfth-century author Eadmer of Canterbury, Dr Charlie Rozier introduces the project and his own research on Eadmer of Canterbury’s reputation as historian to the end of the Middle Ages. This paper examines the reading and responses to Eadmer’s works down to the Reformation, when some of the commentators have some interesting things to say about his love of the Roman popes.
