If you are struggling to get to the voting station to cast your vote for local and general elections, there are different ways that you can vote:

In Person – take your postal vote invitation to the voting station with relevant identification.

Postal – register to vote at www.gov.uk/apply-postal-vote or download a paper form, you can also request a form directly from the council. You will need to renew your postal vote application every three years. You must cast your vote at least 11 working days (excludes weekends and bank holidays) before polling day.

Proxy – this means someone can vote for you when you cannot do it yourself. A proxy vote can be for a single election or for up to 5 years if meet the criteria. You can request a proxy vote without providing a reason for doing so. You will need to provide relevant evidence to prove your identity.

What you need:

To register to vote you must be:

  • at least 16 years of age
  • give your name, address, date of birth, national insurance number. Y
  • a citizen of Britain, the Commonwealth, Irish Republic or qualifying European Union citizen or be an EU citizen with retained rights
  • not be a convicted prisoner

Members of the armed forces can vote at home, by post or by proxy.

Residents of mental health hospital can vote if they are not detained under the mental health act.

Homeless people and remand prisoners can vote by registering a declaration of local connection.

Applications for Postal Voting

West Northamptonshire residents who wish to continue with postal voting must re-apply to ensure continuity.
