Mixed fortunes for Broomfield in the County 4's!

On Friday evening Broomfield had 2 teams playing their opening matches in the Middlesex County 4's. One team made up of John Hooper, Andy Cooper, Tim Beeden and Andy Bennett made the trip to North Greenwich to face Ollie Shearing the New National Under 18's champion and his 4. The guys unfortunately did not make the best of starts and were 8-0 down after 3 ends. After that the guys got to grips with surface and it was pretty much even throughout the rest of the game. Ultimately though that 8-0 was too much of a gap too close and at 21-12 down after 16 ends they shook hands. Bad luck guys. Well done to North Greenwich and Ollie once again for his National success.

The other game was a much tighter game me and my teamates Dave Smith, Chris Wortley and Chris Shallcross made the shorter trip to Bounds Green to face the strong team of Ian Ellis, Allister Franklin, Geoff Lawrence and Nick Edwards. We knew this game was always going to be tough and tight and so it proved. After sharing a 1 on the each on the first 2 ends we managed to pick up a 4 on the 3rd which gave us all a big confidence boost. As I said earlier we always expected a tight game and at halfway it was 7-7 after 9 ends. Leading 15-12 after 16 ends Bounds Green proved what quality bowlers they are by scoring a 3 and setting up a winner takes all last end. The end ebbed and flowed with both holding on a number of times. Nick Edwards with his last wood drew to an inch or two behind the jack for shot, this left with really only the running wood option. Fortunately it was mine and my teamates day hit the target jack moved around and we ended up with shot. It was a great game and many thanks to the members of both clubs North Greenwich and Bounds Green for there hospitality.

Well played all.
