DISAPPOINTING WEEKEND FOR ALICE

After suffering defeat in a close match on Saturday, in the County Pairs quarter final, hopes were high that Alice Lovett would have success in yesterday's Singles quarter final. Those hopes were dashed as Alice went down to a 19-21 defeat to Lymington's Walker Cup player, Sue Hurley. Trailing 1-4 early on, Alice fought back to lead 9 -6, only to drop a 3 and the scores were level. Leading 11-9 Sue then scored a 4 but Alice again came back to lead 19-16. That, however, was not enough as Sue picked up the next 5 shots to clinch a 21-19 victory. Alice will be disappointed but it is a big achievement to reach Last Eghts in two events she still has a trip to Leamington to come when she represents Hampshire in the Junior Singles.
