Some interesting news from BTP.

As part of their violence reduction strategy, BTP will be launching their first ever mobile app for the public. The Railway Guardian app will be available on Apple and Android devices from the 4th July and will provide on-the-go guidance for the public on a whole range of topics, with a particular focus on bystander intervention.

On this app Members of public can report things to BTP directly within the app via 61016 or the online crime report.

If it's an emergency, then the advice is to call 999.

The thinking behind the app

Through BTP's campaign called 'speak up, interrupt' they will be encouraging the public to be an active bystander in a situation where they feel it’s safe to do so, and to report it to them.

Via the app, this encourages members of the public to learn more about what to do if they witness sexual harassment and help to ensure a safe and reliable rail network.

The app provides useful tools, tips, and guidance on how to be an active bystander, and how doing simple things such as asking a question or pointing out something can drastically defuse a situation where someone is being sexually harassed.

BTP also intend that the app will become a journey tracker in the near future where by you will be able to invite people to monitor your journey and report geo tag points and alert them if you are late for any reason.
