Next month, Network Rail engineers will be undertaking works to the Grain Level crossing, on Grain Road (B2001). This means that the crossing and therefore the road will be closed for the duration of these works. These works are critical to ensure the ongoing safety of the crossing and crossing users.

The closure will take effect from 2200 on Saturday 14 February, and reopen at 0300 on Monday 16 February. During this period vehicles will not be able to use the crossing and a road closure will be in effect. Please find attached a letter that residents and businesses in Grain will have received through the post which provides full information on what this means for them. We have also engaged directly with the port and other key employers to discuss the implications of our planned work for their activities over that weekend.

Emergency and healthcare services will be able to access Isle of Grain throughout this closure, via a diversionary route through the BP oil facility. This diversionary route is however not appropriate for private vehicles. Residents will be able to cross on foot while the closure is in effect, and free minibuses will be in operation between the crossing and the High Street while an Arriva bus will be operating on the other side to support people’s onward journeys. Free parking for private vehicles will also be provided on the opposite side of the crossing during the closure.

We recognise the inconvenience that this will cause which is why we want to ensure that residents and businesses have advanced notice of this closure. We will be holding a drop-in event at Grain Village Hall on 22 January so that residents can speak to the project team directly. The attached letter contains full information of that session, as well as further details on the work we will be undertaking.
