Grants Available for Households Experiencing Fuel Poverty
Households struggling with rising energy costs may be able to access financial support through a grant scheme designed to help residents experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, fuel poverty due to the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
The funding is intended to support households where other sources of assistance may not be available and aims to reduce the impact of high energy costs while helping homes become more energy efficient.
Who Can Apply
The scheme supports households who are experiencing, or are at risk of experiencing, fuel poverty. Typically, this means households that are spending a significant proportion of their income on heating and energy costs.
Please note that applications cannot be made directly by residents. Referrals must be submitted by a recognised referral agency or organisation on behalf of the household.
Before a referral is made, the applicant must have contacted their energy supplier directly to discuss their situation and explore any support available from them.
What the Grant Can Help With
Grants may be provided either as direct financial support or to pay for goods, services or improvements that help reduce energy costs. Support may include:
- A contribution towards energy costs, including electricity, gas, oil, coal or logs
- Help with water bills
- Assistance with energy or water bill arrears
- Repairs to central heating systems
- Purchase of energy-efficient heating appliances
- Cold exclusion measures such as carpets or similar improvements that help retain heat
- Support to alleviate hardship caused by the cost-of-living crisis
Evidence Required
To support an application, the following evidence will need to be provided after completing the referral form:
- A copy of the applicant’s most recent energy bill
- Two competitive quotes if the grant request is for cold exclusion measures (for example carpets)
This supporting evidence should be emailed following submission of the referral form.
Closing Date
Referrals must be submitted by 31 March 2026.
