Yesterday Broomfield travelled to Harlow for their opening Lee Valley League game. The green looked fantastic. Well done Fred Titmuss. Thanks to the members of Harlow for welcoming and their food. As for the match itself Broomfield started very well and were up on all 3 rinks after 4 ends. Chris Wortley and his teamates consisting of Tim Beeden, Chris Shallcross and Roy Jones were in complete control from start to finish leading by 8 at halfway, before eventually running out 30-13 winners. The other 2 rinks were a bit different. Myself and my teamates which were Steve Ratty making his debut for Broomfield, Dave Smith and Alan Dilley were in front at halfway and stretched that to an 8 shot lead by 13 ends. Then the wheels came off we lost the next 7 ends before picking up 1 shot on the last end to lose by 2. Final score 17-19 to Harlow. Then there was the other match which was a game of 2 halves! The team of Colin Pink, Andy Cooper, Andy Bennett and Dave Mcleod started brightly and were narrowly in front after 4 ends, then Harlow took control racing into a 23-7 lead after 13 ends. It is tremendous credit to the guys that they kept battling and had a really strong finish to the match, eventually going down to a 26-20 defeat. Overall that means 4-4 in points and not a bad start to the season. Well played all and thanks again to Harlow bowls club. Enjoy the Bank Holiday.
