To all the Parish Councils in the Weald of Kent,
It was inspiring to see people across our parishes and villages come together during our recent water crisis. When tens of thousands of people across Kent and Sussex were left without running water for days, local volunteers stepped up where South East Water failed horribly.
Ofwat has launched a formal investigation into South East Water, and the Chief Executive is due to be recalled to the House of Commons Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee.
Throughout the crisis, I found that what South East Water said was often very far from the situation on the ground. I want to make sure that Ofwat and Parliament know about your actual experiences, not just the South East Water version. So I’ve sent a short survey asking about any issues people might have had with their water to every household across the Weald of Kent, and it should land on everyone’s doorstep later this month.
I will submit all the responses as evidence to both Ofwat and Parliament.
It would be fantastic if you could:
  1. Respond to the survey as a group, if you have had any issues with water in the Parish
  2. Respond to the survey as individuals
  3. Encourage as many people in your Parish as possible to do the same.
You can find the survey here – it’s very short, so it should only take a couple of moments to complete (though if you have a lot to say, please do!).
Please share that link far and wide, and as always, if there’s anything I can do to help, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.
Thank you for all the work you do for everyone in our villages and parishes.
All the best,
Katie
