Head to the polls safely on 6th May 2021

The 6 May elections are just around the corner and Sevenoaks District Council has been working hard to make sure that everyone who is registered can use their vote.

To ensure it is safe for everyone, the Council is asking residents who are heading to a polling station to follow a few simple guidelines.

On arrival, a maximum capacity may be in place to ensure everyone’s safety. This may mean some people waiting outside before they can enter to vote. Unless residents are exempt, face coverings must be worn at all times in the polling station. Voters are also being asked to bring their own pen or pencil to help reduce the risk of transmission. There will be clear signage that all voters are asked to follow carefully.

Any voters who have any symptoms of Coronavirus, or who are asked to self-isolate in the days before polling day, should not attend a polling station. Instead, they should apply for an emergency proxy vote.

Returning Officer and Chief Executive of Sevenoaks District Council, Dr. Pav Ramewal, says: “This election is like no other we’ve experienced before and a huge amount of work has been put in to make voting as safe as possible. The guidelines are there to keep you and our staff protected so we urge you to follow them.

“Your poll card will tell you where to find your polling station. Make sure you check the information on your poll card, as your polling station might have changed since the last elections. You do not need your poll card to vote, if you bring it to your polling station please take it home with you.”

Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 6 May.
