Ightfield Parish Council would like to update residents on the ongoing work to restore the street lighting on Burleydam Road, Ightfield.

We understand the concerns raised and appreciate the patience shown while this issue has been investigated. Although the process has taken longer than anticipated, we want to reassure residents that the matter has been actively progressed and is now close to resolution.

The lights were first reported as not working in January 2025, at a time when the Parish Council was operating with temporary administrative support following several unsuccessful recruitment attempts. This contributed to delays in moving a number of outstanding matters forward, including this one.

A permanent Parish Clerk was appointed in March 2025 and began work to establish responsibility for the lights, as street lighting within the parish is maintained by multiple authorities. Following liaison with the relevant departments, it was confirmed that the three lights on Burleydam Road fall under the responsibility of Ightfield Parish Council.

Subsequent checks showed that the lighting units had been replaced in recent years and were functioning prior to storm damage in early 2025. This suggested that the issue was likely related to the electricity supply rather than the lamps themselves.

Addressing this required detailed work with both our lighting contractor and the regional electricity network operator. Progress was slowed by inaccuracies in historic records, which made it necessary to verify and update street lighting information across the parish. A full review was completed in autumn 2025, and updated records were submitted.

We are now pleased to confirm that the electricity supply has been formally verified and a fault report has been accepted. The issue is believed to relate to a cable within the control box, which falls under the responsibility of the electricity network operator. We are currently awaiting a site visit from their technical team to carry out the required repair.

We hope residents are reassured that the matter has not been overlooked and that significant work has taken place behind the scenes to reach this point. The Parish Council will continue to pursue the repair until it is completed and will provide further updates as soon as they are available.

Thank you for your continued understanding.
