It was, for the Club's men, a long evening on Thursday as they took on Aldershot Traction in the National Two Rink competition. For much of the match Oakley led, but never by more than 6 shots. The first rink to finish was that skipped by Martin Vickers leaving the rink skipped by Graham Tompkins to *keep the score tight on their last end" and ensure victory for Oakley. That looked to have been achieved with Oakley holding the shot but Traco had other ideas killing the end. By now it was getting dark and when, on the replayed end, Traco knocked the jack to a group of their own bowls, things looked black for Oakley. Fortunately Graham rose to the occasion producing a fine drawing bowl to get the shot and guarantee Oakley the match. Oakley scores: Gary Newson, Malcolm Grime, Ric Newson and Martin Vickers won 16-12; Jamie Fewtrell, Gerald Norris, Sean Lassman and Graham Tompkins won 17-16.
