This evening, at Cove, it was the Basingstoke Town triple of Matt Carr, Trevor Morgan and Richard Burgin that came out on top in the Northern Area Final of the County Triples as they played last year's County semi-finalists from Oakley, Leigh Allen, Ashley Nethercliffe and Nick Hardy. At 6 ends the teams were tied at 4-4 but a running bowl from Oakley on the 7th end went badly wrong and they dropped a score of 5. With the Town players adapting better to an unusually pushy Cove green it became an uphill task for Oakley. At 5-15 another Oakley running bowl again went wrong. When the jack was driven towards Oakley's back bowls it looked as if the deficit might be reduced enough to give Oakley a late but slender chance of snatching a win but when the jack struck and stayed with a lone Town bowl, skip Nick Hardy realised the game was up and conceded the match. We wish the Town good luck in the County Quarter Finals at Banister.
