The Season starts (wet)!!

The Pre-season meeting was held on 28th March where members heard the plans for the 2024 season.

April soon arrived with its usual elements of mixed weather and a Tidy up Day was arranged for Sunday 7th April, many thanks to all those who attended. We achieved what we intended, which was to clear the ditches out and relay in readiness for the arrival of a new Ditch Liner where we expect delivery in May. Delivery is delayed due to the Iranian backed Houthi rebels attacking shipping that are connected to countries who support Israel in Gaza. All shipping is being diverted from using the Red Sea & the Suez Canal and taking a longer route around southern Africa instead.

The Pavilion was spruced up and thanks go to everyone involved where all the work was finished just in time for a welcome lunchtime break of Sausages & Bacon butties followed by a selection of cakes plus a nice cup of tea. Grateful thanks must go to Katy Hillier for the supply and cooking of sausages and bacon, a welcome treat.

The Green was Opened on Sunday 14th April at 2.00pm, the weather was set fair with plenty of sunshine which attracted numerous members and spectators plus a couple who came along to try their hand at the game with a view to returning. As a result, they joined and two new members are now playing well and have settled into the club enviroment, we welcome them and wish them well.

Three friendlies arranged towards the end of the month against, Scarning and the Angel, Swanton Morley Bowls Clubs, unfortunately due to bad weather both these matches were called off. The friendly against Watton Bowls Club on Saturday 27th April looked to be another rained off match, however, we were blessed with a window opportunity where the rain held off to allow us to have our first game of the season. We mustered together 12 players (4 blocks of 3 players) where three of the blocks won with the final score being 69 – 46, a promising start, well done to Bradenham including Angie Barnett & Robin Davis who competed in their first ever match, welcome to the club.

Roll Ups (practise sessions) take place every Sunday at the Club at 2.00pm, no experience is necessary, and all equipment is provided all we ask is that you flat soled shoes with no heels or ridges to protect the Green.
