We're getting plastered!

The plaster covering on the north wall of Hope Bagot church has been crumbling and falling away and it was proposed that that area be re-plastered.. when the old plaster was removed, however, it was decidedly damp and it was thought sensible to fix the damp problem before re-plastering. This work will now be deferred until next year since lime plaster requires a dry atmosphere and temperate clime. Interestingly there are some positive comments in the Vistors' Book admiring the exposed stonework - the problem is that it is largely small rubble and would be very difficult to make an attractive job of pointing it. Watch this space - better still go and visit the church and see the work for yourself!
