Well it was on the cards and after our recent AGM plans are afoot to change the name of the bowls club.

Its is felt by the committee that links with the Miners Welfare was growing thin .The only contact many of the team players have is a meeting place in the Welfare car park on away matches.

The fact is since the closing of the local mines involvement with the bowls club has dwindled and Covid didnt help.A sad thing really as the club is just reached 40 years since being formed.

The new name voted for is Eastwood and Greasley Bowls Club .A bit long winded but it is a move to hopefully free the club and engage with the local Eastwood area more fully

It is worth mentioning that you will find it hard to find Greasley on any map .Many visiting bowls teams get confused with Gresley in Leicestershire. The fact is Greasley is a civil parish for local government .It is mentioned in the Doomsday book and has a few old monuments scattered around. . Moorgreen is the village at the centre of the parish.

lets hope the name change helps the club maintain and hopefully increase player numbers .
