Safeguarding
Alton Community Care (ACC) aims to make a positive contribution to a strong and safe community and recognises the right of every individual to stay safe. We recognise that we come into contact with vulnerable adults who make up the main users of our service – driving them to medical appointments. Most of our clients are elderly and many are in poor health. ACC has a Safeguarding Policy that seeks to ensure that we undertake our responsibilities with regard to protection of vulnerable adults and will respond to concerns appropriately. The policy establishes a framework to support our volunteer drivers in their practices and clarifies the organisation’s expectations.
We expect each of our members to promote good practice by being an excellent role model, contributing to discussions about safeguarding and positively involving people in developing safe practices. In addition, the ACC Committee has the responsibility to ensure that the Safeguarding Policy is implemented and regularly reviewed. We have a Designated Safeguarding Lead, to whom any concerns of members of ACC are reported. The Designated Safeguarding Lead is responsible for investigating any such reports.
ACC commits resources for induction, training of staff, effective communications and support mechanisms in relation to safeguarding. Drivers are encouraged to report any concerns about their clients to the Designated Safeguarding Lead in the first instance.
