Alton Quaker Meeting
What Quakers do
Many of us find that our beliefs gradually change and that we get involved in all sorts of social issues, movements and other activities to try and make the world a better place, even if we can only do a little bit.
We have good times too. We arrange discussion groups to get us thinking, parties – well, why not? – Walks, garden open days, outings, talks on interesting subjects. Our children and young people do lots of different things, from art and craft activities to getting involved with other young Quakers from the region and getting out and about. And we do have a good time at our Christmas party!
We often meet with other Quakers in the area, and annually there is a ‘Yearly Meeting’ when many hundreds of Quakers get together.
But most importantly, we care for each other, and are serious about our spiritual journeys. We try to listen carefully, speak gently and to ‘live in the light’.
