Changes to food waste collections from autumn 2026

Message from Cheshire East:

From late autumn 2026, we will introduce weekly food waste collections. This is part of wider changes to our waste and recycling services following the government's Simpler Recycling legislation.

What the changes mean for you

When collections start:

• your food waste will be collected every week
• your black bin will be collected every 3 weeks
• your bin collection day may change

You do not need to sign up, and the service is at no additional cost to you.

You will receive a new 23-litre outdoor food waste caddy before collections start.

Outdoor food waste caddies will be delivered from 6 July 2026. All residents should receive theirs by the end of October 2026.

Deliveries will take place in phases, so you may receive your caddy several weeks before your food waste collections start.

What to do once you receive your caddy

Inside the caddy, you’ll find a leaflet with information about the service and a sticker that tells you what you can put in it. You should:

• read the information in the leaflet
• attach the sticker to the lid of your caddy
• write your address in the space provided on the sticker

Do not put your caddy out for collection yet.

From mid-October, you will be able to check when collections start and your new collection day using the online collection calendar.
