Basingstoke Deane Rotary Club

Changemaker Award 2012 Changemaker Award 2012

When Kalyan Banerjee became President of Rotary International he introduced three new awards, one of which was the Change Maker Award.  It was over Easter we received the exciting news that President Kalyan Banerjee had awarded our Club, the Rotary Club of Basingstoke Deane The Change Maker Award for the best middle size Rotary Club in the world!

“Such exciting news.” said a delighted Club President Marion Cornick, “But the club has a history of service to the community over the last 27 years and especially a commitment to fundraising to support many local charities, needy individuals, projects for young people, international projects and the local hospices.  Everyone works hard to ensure we can keep on giving to our community and overseas, both in service and in charitable donations.”

“I received an email late on Sunday night saying we had won the Award. It was too late at night to get confirmation but I phoned District Governor Caroline first thing in the morning who was as excited as myself about the Award.” President Marion was invited to the RI Convention in Bangkok where she and the other Award winners were introduced to the delegates by President Kalyan.

The Award was formally presented to President Marion on behalf of the RI President by District Governor Caroline on their return to the UK.
