Basingstoke Deane Rotary Club
Meet our President
Rod Clarke took over as President of the Rotary Club of Basingstoke Deane in July from Helen Ricketts. However, this is a special year for him as he is the first member to serve as President for the second time having previously been President in 1999 and also this year will be the 30th anniversary of the Club. Rod has been a member since 1988 and contributed a great amount to the growth of the Club.
Rod was born and grew up in Whitchurch where he is very involved in the local community. When leaving school he worked as an engineering apprentice in Lancing Bagnell, later becoming an industrial photographer. He won many awards, taking photographs in various parts of the world. He told the Club members on taking over about some of his main assignments including photographing the Queen Mother, Margaret Thatcher and Joanne Lumley on their visits to Basingstoke. Unfortunately he could not be drawn as to whom he preferred photographing!
During his year, he hopes to continue the development of the Club, particularly by encouraging newer members to be fully involved in its various activities, particularly the contacts with the local community, youth and overseas work.
