BATCHWOOD HALL BOWLING CLUB – PRESS REPORT 20th July 2026

Batchwood Ladies played St Albans Ladies in a match at home. Batchwood lost one rink and won the other winning the game by 5 overall.

A mixed game was played away at Redbourn on a hot afternoon. All 3 triples won their games winning 56 - 41. The top rink was Don Smith, Joshua David and skip Mark Trembling winning 17 - 6.

Three rinks played away at Harpenden at the weekend. Batchwood lost on two of the rinks winning the third. Batchwood lost overall 45 – 53. The top rink was George Tutt, Brian Roberts, Joyce Hopkinson and skip Mark Trembling.

In the Men’s County League Batchwood played Townsend Bowls Club away. It was a very close game, touch and go until the final end. Unfortunately Batchwood lost by 2 shots on Mark Trembling’s rink and by 3 shots on Brian Parkes’ rink. Townsend won by 5 shots overall gaining all 6 points.

Brian Parkes of Batchwood Bowls Club played John Bell, also of Batchwood, in the District Officer’s Singles competition. Brian pulled away at the start of the game, but John ralllied and, at 22 ends the scores were level at 18 - all. Brian scored one shot on the next 3 ends to win the game 21 – 18. Brian is through to the semi-final.

In the St Albans & District Bowling Association’s 2-wood triples competition three teams from Batchwood Bowling club have made it to the quarter-final stage. Unfortunately two teams played each other in the quarter-final so only one of those teams can make the semi-final. Joshua David, Chris Kelly and John Turkentine played John Bell, Jon Quick & Brian Parkes. On the 18th end Turkentine’s team were leading 15 – 14 and went on to win the match 19 – 14 and go on to play in the semi-final.
