The government has announced that an additional 1.7 million people are expected to be added to the shielded list across the country.

Anyone who is being added and who will be asked to shield is expected to receive a letter this week. If you are a Battle resident and receive a letter and need support the following support is available in our local area.

Getting help and advice

If you need help and support:

  • In the first instance, you should ask trusted family, friends or neighbours to collect or organise shopping for food and essentials, and medicine or prescription collection on your behalf.
  • You can still get prescriptions, essential items and food you buy delivered by NHS Volunteer Responders, call 0808 196 3646 for support. They may also be able to help with transport to medical appointments and set up regular contact over the phone with a friendly voice if you’re lonely or isolated.
  • You can make a new registration on GOV.UK for priority supermarket delivery slots and to ask for contact about local support.
  • For the Battle area Community Hub, contact Rother District Council via their website www.Rother.gov.uk or telephone: 01424 787000 (option 4)
  • Battle Town Council have a volunteer force who can organise & deliver shopping, from Jempsons, or deliver prescriptions, from Day Lewis or Boots, to residents in the Battle or Netherfield wards.

Call 01424 772210 during office hours 9am to 2pm to request assistance. If you call outside of office hours please leave your name and number and someone will call you back on the next working day.

  • If you don’t have anyone you can ask for help, you can contact Health and Social Care Connect (HSCC) on 0345 60 80 191 (open 8am to 8pm 7 days a week including bank holidays) or email Health and Social Care Connect - hscc@eastsussex.gov.uk
