Details

John Constable was one of our two most renowned landscape painters and the painter par excellence of the English countryside, to which, like Wordsworth, he was utterly devoted, with a love, only excelled by that for his short-lived wife, Maria Bicknell and his children. Living in a rapidly changing world, he found comfort in Nature, that which he most readily understood and yet his art in subject, though conservative, was revolutionary in form: Brian Armstrong
