Library Activities
Community café: There is always a free cup of tea, coffee or squash and biscuits available (although donations are always accepted) and a place to stop and chat.
Knit and Natter: Our knit and natter sessions are held at the library from 2.00 – 4.00pm every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month.
The group consists of skilled and talented knitters/crafters and new knitters too. The group has taught many beginners to become confident in their projects. If you are interested in joining this friendly group, please leave your name and contact details at the library desk, or call in and chat with one of the team.
Game-On: Table games are held in the library on the 1 & 3rd Tuesday each month (alternate with knit & natter)
Reading Groups: There are a couple of Reading and Book Groups associated with the library. For further information please enquire at the library desk.
Read & Rhyme: The purpose behind R&R is to encourage social and emotional development so that the young attendees learn to share, cooperate, build friendships and develop self-confidence and social awareness. R&R is also important for helping young children to develop their language and communication skills by encouraging them to express themselves verbally, listen attentively and participate in music activities. More importantly perhaps is that the sessions are designed to encourage a love of stories and the written word which will pave the way to reading for pleasure.
Sessions are held on Saturday mornings from 10.15–10.45 with a follow-up craft activity over snacks in the café area. These are designed for young children but older children are welcomed if they enjoy participating in action songs and rhymes and respond well to a good story told using puppets, soft toys, props and sometimes a rainbow parachute.
On Thursday mornings a Parent and Pre-School group is designed for pre-school children, toddlers and their parents. A range of simple action songs, rhymes and stories are enjoyed between 11.00 – 11.15, followed by the opportunity for some easily managed craft activities over refreshments, with the session ending at 11.45.
