Southampton engineering work
We have been given the following update regarding major railway engineering work taking place at the end of the year in the Southampton area.
It is possible that the work will have an impact on customers due to a line closure which means Rail replacement buses will be in operation.
From 24th December to 2nd January, work will take place to renew track and points at Northam Junction, between Southampton Central and St Denys. Buses will replace trains between Southampton Central and Southampton Airport Parkway / Eastleigh during this time as well as between Southampton Central and Fareham. On Wednesday 27th to Friday 29th December, trains from the Portsmouth direction will run as far as Woolston with Rail replacement buses in place between Woolston and Southampton Central.
The work taking place is part of Network Rail's Upgrade Programme and involves the replacing of 14 sets of points, renewing 200 meters of track and improving the condition of infrastructure. This will result in improved reliability with fewer breakdowns and failures and reduced track noise.
The work is being done at this time as traditionally it is when fewer people travel. Using the nine day period minimises disruption to those who travel to work by train.
The timetable will shortly be available on the National Rail Enquiries website.
The level crossings on Mount Pleasant and Adelaide Road will be closed during this time so will have an impact on those travelling by road to and from St Denys station.
The next meeting of the Planning Committee takes place in the Parish office on Tuesday 28th November at 7:00pm. The doors will be open from 6:45pm for anyone wishing to view the planning documents. The agenda will be available here when published.
The Full Council will meet at 7:30pm on the same day, following the Planning Committee. The document pack, including the agenda, will be available here when published.
Panto comes to Bishopstoke
Bishopstoke Players brings a traditional family pantomime to the Memorial Hall in January, with its production of "Little Red Riding Hood", by Paul Reakes.
Pantovia is in turmoil! Prince Rupert, the next in line to the throne, has fled the land and the evil Count De Cash is ruler! However, a dashing young man turns up with his butler to try and solve the crisis. But what can he do and why does his butler keep him close by? Will Pantovia once again become a bustling town or is it doomed forever?
This traditional pantomime is full of songs, dances and jokes, along with twists and turns at every corner and plenty of opportunity for audience participation!
Performances are in Bishopstoke Memorial Hall from Wednesday 24th to Saturday 27th January 2018 at 7.30pm, with a matinee on Saturday 27th at 2.30pm.
Tickets are £8 (£6 for those aged 16 or under) and are available from 1st December at www.bishopstokeplayers.uk, by email to email@example.com or phone (07871) 006551. Like all Bishopstoke Players' productions, proceeds will be donated to the charity Action for Children. This amateur production of "Little Red Riding Hood" is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, LTD.
Work for the Parish Council
The Parish Council currently has both building and fencing work available. Any local company wishing to be included on the mailing list to quote for these and future jobs should contact the Clerk on Bishopstoke.firstname.lastname@example.org.
In particular, quotes would be welcome for a substantial fencing job at Bishopstoke Cemetery. The specification for the job is available here.
Neighbourhood Plan Help
Bishopstoke Parish Council is working on producing a Neighbourhood Plan that will help shape the future of our village for the coming years. We've already had offers of help from a number of residents, but it's not too late if you'd like to volunteer to join one of the working groups or help out in other ways. Just complete the Expression of Interest form (which you can download here) and either drop it in to the Parish Office (next to the Memorial Hall) or email it back to us at Bishopstoke.email@example.com. We look forward to hearing from you.
