Travel Update

Information from Bluestar about bus timetable changes due to road closures

B*2 - Bishopstoke Road - Overnight closure - 20:00-06:00 26-28th November

Please be aware that Bishopstoke Road in Eastleigh will be closed between the junction of Southampton Road Station Hill (Lidl Roundabout) and Chickenhall Lane on the nights of the Sunday 26, Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 November from 20:00 to 06:00, affecting our Bluestar 2 service.

Buses from Southampton will run as normal to Eastleigh Bus Station, then run non-stop via Twyford Road, Highbridge, Colden Common and Fishers Pond to Sandy Lane before serving Fair Oak Square, Fair Oak Road (Welcome Inn), Underwood Road, Stoke Park Road/Drake Road and Riverside*.

Buses towards Southampton will start from Riverside and will run the normally 'outbound' (to Fair Oak) route via Stoke Park Road/Drake Road, Underwood Road, Fair Oak Road (Welcome Inn) and Fair Oak Square before Sandy Lane, then run non-stop via Fishers Pond, Colden Common, Highbridge and Twyford Road to Eastleigh Bus Station where it will return to normal route into Southampton.

Southampton engineering work

We have been given the following update regarding major railway engineering work taking place at the end of the year in the Southampton area.

It is possible that the work will have an impact on customers due to a line closure which means Rail replacement buses will be in operation.

From 24th December to 2nd January, work will take place to renew track and points at Northam Junction, between Southampton Central and St Denys. Buses will replace trains between Southampton Central and Southampton Airport Parkway / Eastleigh during this time as well as between Southampton Central and Fareham.  On Wednesday 27th to Friday 29th December, trains from the Portsmouth direction will run as far as Woolston with Rail replacement buses in place between Woolston and Southampton Central.

The work taking place is part of Network Rail's Upgrade Programme and involves the replacing of 14 sets of points, renewing 200 meters of track and improving the condition of infrastructure. This will result in improved reliability with fewer breakdowns and failures and reduced track noise.

The work is being done at this time as traditionally it is when fewer people travel. Using the nine day period minimises disruption to those who travel to work by train.

The timetable will shortly be available on the National Rail Enquiries website.

The level crossings on Mount Pleasant and Adelaide Road will be closed during this time so will have an impact on those travelling by road to and from St Denys station.
