Corona Virus 2020/21

In March 2020 Boughton Under Blean Bowls club had to close due to the covid 19 outbreak. All remaining short mat matches were cancelled.  Despite this and because of their unassailable position, the Acorns were promoted to the first division when the league returns.

During this time when the country faced 'lockdown', some members gave up their daily exercise to attend the club to do maintenance around the site and to ensure the green was ready for play when the time came.

When eventually the club members were allowed to roll up again, it was a very different scene. Volunteers came to help out by weeding and cleaning. Signage was put in place and hand cleaning solutions were made ready. The committee who had been meeting on line moved to outdoor meetings whilst social distancing from each other. The club house remained closed except for the accessable toilet. Members had to book to ensure the numbers remained within the guide lines and a record of those attending had to be kept for the purpose of 'track and trace'.

Slowly the game resumed, but only roll ups on a pay as you go basis. Firstly singles and then pairs but no matches were allowed.

In July the club re-opened (but not the club house) and most members returned on the booking basis to play pairs and even triples.

Unfortunately as the second and third waves of the virus arrived, all play stopped. Short mat did not resume in September as hoped and the winter saw just a small team looking after the green and the club house. In February 2021, the virus spread slowed and members waited with baited breath to see what would happen to our sport and when.

The Governments road back to normality signalled the resumption of outdoor play from 27th April 2021. Members have to book to play at first. Some matches have been arranged and rules for safe play remain in force.

Many thanks to those who worked so hard to ensure that as the club re-opens, it will be safe and secure for members.
