A glimpse into the past...

We thought that residents may be interested in seeing a selection of historic minutes as these can be a good way to see how life in Bourton has changed over the years.

We’ve therefore included minutes randomly selected from our archives from past years.

These will be changed periodically so please keep an eye on this space if you’re interested in seeing what was happening in Bourton in days gone by.

The latest posted archived minutes are taken from 2 Council meetings held during the 1st World War.  You'll note from these minutes that in 1916 a parcel of clothing was sent by Bourton residents for Australian and New Zealand troops wounded in battle.  Also, in 1919 Bourton was offered a captured machine gun by the War Office Property Committee.

Queen Victoria Jubilee Poem

We've unearthed a poem which was written in 1887 by one of Bourton's residents on the occasion of Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee.  The poem tells us not only what went on to celebrate such an event in those days, but also a little bit about what village life was like in those days.  If you want to read the poem, please click on the link.
