Long to Reign Over Us

'Long to Reign Over Us' Children's Party - September 2015

The Parish Council celebrated Queen Elizabeth II becoming our country's longest reigning monarch by inviting local school children to a party at The George Moore Community Centre. There was a wide range of prizes to be won for participation in various games, quizzes and competitions (all with a royal theme), including a treasure hunt, pass the parcel and bingo. The children were honoured to have a visit from the Queen (aka Mollie Wise) who chatted to them and had her photograph taken with them.

We were delighted that over 60 youngsters and their parents were able to come along to join in with our celebrations - we really didn't know how many people to expect!

We would like to thank our volunteer helpers for making our party a success: Mollie Wise, Jan Hemmings, Sian Hemmings, Shelagh Webb, Pam Hibbard, Mel Oliveira & Cllr Cowen. We would also like to thank the following local residents and businesses for their kind donations: Birdland (soft toy), Bourton Vale Cricket Club (snacks), Bourton News (chocolates), Tony Inwood - The Picture Taker (photography), Bourton Model Railway (football), Bourton Visitor Information Centre (soft toy), John Hackling (bunting), Wendy - Community Champion from Stow Tesco (sweets) & Cotswold Motoring Museum (family tickets).

Of course, we must thank all the children and parents for coming to our first party at the Community Centre too. Thank you for your patience during some of the chaotic moments - a lot of lessons have been learnt! We hope you'll come to our next party, for which plenty of notice will be given and age groups will be split.
