Friends For You

By Assistant Clerk Bourton-on-the-Water Parish Council

Sue Cretney

Friends For You offers a free volunteer befriending service for older and vulnerable people living in Gloucestershire. They offer regular social contact at a time when a person might be feeling cut off from their community – through ill health, bereavement or because family and friends are scattered. Research suggests that being isolated can be as bad for your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

How it Works

They introduce you to a local, reliable volunteer who visits you regularly in the comfort of your own home to spend time together, maybe reminisce about days gone by and share a cup of tea.

We all know how important it is to have someone we can rely on to come and see us regularly, especially if we are housebound and this is where the befriending service comes into its own.

Interested in Helping Us?

However, in order to provide this vital service, they do need volunteers to come forward. Their volunteers are the life blood of their service as without them they couldn’t exist.

So if you have an hour a week to spare, why not volunteer for them and be assured that you will spend that time in the company of someone who will really appreciate your time. After all, it only takes an hour a week to transform someone’s life. Full training and support is provided together with an opportunity to meet fellow volunteers and to forge new friendships.
