Sunday 8th September P.M. - Abbrook Park BC

With barely time to let lunch settle, our ladies were back on the green to face the winners of the other semi-final, Paignton. Their oppponents this time were S Summersby and S Bellingham. Whether the short break upset our ladies or not, they dropped three shots on the first end, and did the same on the second. At the end of the fourth, Anne and Carolyn found themselves trailing by nine shots to nil. This was starting to look a little bleak. Again, as in so many games our ladies dug in, kept their composure and started to play their way back into the match. The ladies from Paignton did not make it easy, restricting Anne and Carolyn to single shot ends if not taking it themselves. At sixteen ends Anne and Carolyn trailed by just the one shot. End seventeen, the girls edged in front for the first time in the match when they picked up three shots to lead eighteen-sixteen. Then the real drama started. With Paighton now looking at defeat they again rallied. Picking up a single shot on the next end to close it to one again. Our ladies then picked up two shots on the nineteenth end for a three shot overall advantage. Surely the game was won? The next end and the Paignton ladies stubbornly refusing to be beaten, picked up three shots themselves to level the match at twenty-twenty after twenty ends. The tension was palpable, the unbadged pairs had come down to a one end, winner takes all.......................if what had gone before wasn't tense enough it got ramped up a further notch on the final end. After the two leads had bowled their allotted woods Carolyn was holding two shots. Looking good for Bovey. Then came the skips. The Paignton skip with her first wood narrowly missed the jack but on her second wood drew the shot. Paignton's game. Anne then played her second wood to remove the Paignton wood to hold shot again for Bovey. This was repeated with the third woods still Bovey's game. On the final wood Paignton again got shot and potentially the match. One wood left. Anne played it to perfection, picked up the jack and trailed it back to give Bovey fours shots and the title. Very well done to our ladies. Hard luck to Paignton who made it a great game to watch.

Anne and Carolyn would like to thank all the club members who came to support them over the week-end and especially those hardened souls who braved the cold weather during the final!
