George Green - Slaughterman

"Over 50 years ago, to be exact 1912, the late Mr. George Green, a highly skilled slaughterman who, for 30 years killed all the pigs in Bucklebury and the adjoining parishes, told my father that the organs of the human body and of the pig were identical.

He also told him, provided the lungs and kidneys are healthy, and surgeons become clever and skilled, a pig’s heart could be made to function in a human being."

This newspaper article was probably published in the mid-1960s.  It was passed to us along with other paperwork of historical value – unfortunately no date, or which newspaper, were mentioned.  We are not sure why Thomas Green is mentioned in the article.

The reference to GEORGE GREEN is almost certainly the George Green who lived at Briff Farm.  His occupation on the 1911 census for Bucklebury is given as Pig Butcher and Sheep Shearer.  Briff Farm was described as a small holding.

George Green was born about 1867 in Bucklebury and was the son of Isaac Green, also born in Bucklebury about 1832.  George married Lilie Jane Wallin of Ashmore Green in 1890 and by 1911 they had 3 children.  Jethro Green born in 1892, Louie Green in 1895 and Raymond Green in 1897.
