Gertrude Bacon

GERTRUDE BACON – 1874-1949

Gertrude Bacon’s father, John, was a balloonist, astronomer aeronaut and scientist.  She was born in Cambridge but moved to Cold Ash in 1876 to Sunnyside House which was pulled down in the 1960s.  She wrote a biography about her father and an autobiography with a lot of information about Cold Ash.

Gertrude was an original member of the British Astronomical Association attending the inaugural meeting in 1890 and was also a member of the British Association for Advanced Science.
