Lockdown League

Lockdown League

The club is setting up this tournament to introduce an element of competition to the current roll-up sessions and make the bowling a little more interesting. The tournament is for single players (Men and Ladies) in a league format and will begin on 06 July. Anyone interested in playing should contact Andy Todd by 04 July. There will be an entry fee of £1, which, to add interest, will make up the prize for the winning player.

Despite the easing of lockdown, we are still operating under the safety guidance for reopening the green, so please continue to observe the rules for playing safely.

League Rules

  1. The tournament will take the form of a league, in which each player, using 4 woods, will play all the others in the league or pool once (see Rule 2 below). Matches will be played over 18 ends and 2 points will be awarded for a win, 1 for a draw.
  2. If there are sufficient entries, it may be necessary split into a number of pools. Players will be drawn at random into pools of no more than 6. The winners of each pool will play off to decide the overall winner. If there is a tie at the end of the pool stage, the winner will be decided on the result between the tied players and, if still tied, by the better shot difference.
  3. Players must arrange their own games before the closing date of 31 July. You do not need to have a marker, though if you can find a volunteer, it makes a singles games easier to play. Try to avoid measures but if needed, use your own measure and do not to touch your opponent's bowls with your hands.
  4.  One player should complete a scorecard, agreed by both players, and communicate the result to Andy Todd. Results will be posted on this page of the website. If pools are used, play off games for pool winners will be arranged immediately after the closing date.

UPDATE

The final games in the leagues were played today (29 July) - thanks to everyone for beating the deadline and getting your games in promptly. Congratulations to the pool winners, who now have to play off to decide the final two. They are:

Pool 1  Phil Nelson

Pool 2  Dave Simmons

Pool 3  Andy Todd

Pool 4  Dave Hooper

The semi-final pairings are: Phil Nelson v. Andy Todd and Dave Simmons v. Dave Hooper

We hope to play these games at the same time on a date to be arranged, probably either 5 or 7 August. The final will then take place on Finals weekend, 5-6 September.

Dave Hooper and Andy Todd prevailed in their semi-finals and met in the the final on 05 September, which was won by Andy, who therefore scoops the prize.
