Our Parish

The Parish Council

Parish Councils are the first tier of local government.  We represent and consult with communities within the Parish and are consulted on a number of matters impacting our community by Northumberland County Council. This includes planning matters, where the Parish Council does not make final decisions to accept or reject an application, but it is consulted by NCC and its views taken into consideration.

Being close to the community we are often the first point of contact for residents wishing to raise an issue, find out who to contact about something or just understand their rights.  The Council has a significant role to play in consulting with local people and representing those views to the County Council and other relevant bodies.  It has a role as a sounding board for local opinion, but must also give due consideration to competing points of view, and try to help find a way forward that is in the best interests of the area as a whole.

The best way for our community to engage with the Parish Council is to attend one of our meetings, or if time does not allow then to contact our Clerk.

Chollerton Parish Council is also responsible for the following assets within the Parish:

  1. 1 Defbrillator outside Barrasford Village Hall. To note that there are also defibrillators at Barrasford Park, Colwell Village Hall, Gunnerton defibrillator located halfway up the village on the wall outside South Farm, adjacent to the village notice board.
  2. 3 Grit bins
  3. 4 noticeboards
  4. Royal British Legion (RBL) war memorial  silhouette
  5. 3 bus shelters
  6. Commemorative seat
