Christchurch Twinning Association is an independent, pro-active voluntary funded social organisation formed in 1982 in response to the formal town council mayoral links with St Lo the previous year. Our aim is to promote community and social links between the linked towns of Christchurch (New Zealand), Aalen (Germany), Saint Lo (France). In 2013 we took on responsibility for twinning links with Tatabanya (Hungary).
The Association being self funding receives no financial support from the local authority (Christchurch Borough Council) and welcomes its members from the towns of Christchurch, Highcliffe, Bournemouth and surrounding other communities. It undertakes to maintain those links with our twinned towns and communities which had previously been performed as a civic function. All income is raised through a small membership fee, coffee mornings and regular social events.
Currently the membership is around 50 mature members and we welcome people of all ages to join with us.
We rely very much on Social events and membership fees to cover our running costs and fund activities.
