Massed Band Concert Friday 6th May 2016
What a wonderful evening of music given by the Christchurch and District, Unterkochen and The Kochen Clan Bands in a rather warm packed Twnham School Hall on the weekend of the Food festival. It was a night of a lot of music and little speeches. The evening started gently with the Unterkochen Band playing a repertoire of traditional German folk music followed by the Kochen Clan band playing some easy on the ear bagpipe and drum music > This was followed by the Christchurch Bands party pieces and then a grand finale of the massed bands playing in concert with an encore from the pipers. (Not Howard and Sheila) Those that missed the concert missed out on the opportunity to stamp, clap, sway, wave their arms in time with the music and see our own David Flagg in action as a guest drummer. I don’t have a musical bone in my body, and can’t remember the names of the tunes played but I do appreciate the quality and how seamlessly these German and English bands worked together having had only a few hours to practice after meeting at the Big Breakfast. To be honest I expected some stirring Oompha, Oompha type drinking songs not the gentler melodies that were played but I’ve been converted and am looking forward to the next occasion that these fine musicians get together.
