Dear Councillors,

I would like to inform you of proposed bridge repair works which will require the closure of Westcott No 2 Bridge which carries the unclassified road over a tributary of the Habberley Brook from Westcott Wood junction to Brook Coppice near Westcott.

The repair work will involve installing new concrete aprons to the upstream left and right training walls to prevent further scour damage and undercutting of the structure. We will also be infilling a scour pool to the upstream side of the structure, installation of cintec anchors to address the spandrel drift and arch ring cracking at the upstream end of the structure and taking down and rebuilding of the upstream right hand parapet. We will also take this opportunity to remove trees and vegetation to the downstream right wingwall.

The work is programmed to start on 14th September 2020 and is expected to last up to 5 weeks. The normal working hours will be between 8.00am to 16.00pm Monday to Friday.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the repairs a 24 hr road closure will be required for the duration of the works. While the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via Habberley, Pulverbatch and Bridges by a signed diversion as shown on the attached plan. Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the works and access to frontages will be maintained up to the bridge closure.

The work will be carried out by the Council’s term maintenance contractor, Kier with supervision being provided by WSP on behalf of Shropshire Council.

In order to inform the public of the proposals, advance notice signs will be erected at the bridge and an information letter delivered to local properties. A press release will also be issued, but in the meantime if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me

Best Regards
