Latest Meeting Report

Last month`s talk (March) was not without a last minute panic. We were expecting to receive a talk from Adam Greathead, head gardener to John Massey at Ashwood Nurseries.

Thanks go to Linda (editor of WoC) who, in her quest to find a photo of Adam to put with the gardening club notice, discovered that Adam had died suddenly last October at the tender age of 27. What a shock! Our hearts go out to his family and friends.

Fortunately for us, we were able to reschedule Tamsin Westhorpe whom we had to cancel in December due to bad weather. Tamsin was editor of “The English Garden” magazine for 7 years and she now writes for several publications. Her talk was entitled “Life as a Garden Writer” which gave a highly interesting snap-shot of some of the aspects involved in creating gardening articles.

Did you know, for example, that articles for a monthly magazine are done a year in advance whereas those for a weekly magazine are composed only the week before? This makes the weekly mag a better option for things of a practical nature as it is very current. Tamsin totally captivated us and we will be following up with a visit to Stockton Bury Gardens in June.

Next Meeting: Thursday 12th April 2018

“Spring Show and Quiz”

This is a good fun evening even if you are not exhibiting. Exhibits need to be ready for judging at 7.45pm. The hall at Stoke St Milborough will be open from 7.00pm. We enjoy a fabulous quiz whilst judging takes place and we also hold a photo competition with the winning photo going on the front cover of next season`s programme.
