As Collingwood sees the end of another out door season rapidly approaching.

It has been a busy season with some exciting bowling taking place in what has been seen as ‘not too exciting weather’ a fact echoed by colleagues in other clubs throughout the region who played through the latest downpour.

Whilst many of Collingwood’s members will continue to bowl indoors during the closed season, the thoughts of many will be on the refurbishment of our clubhouse which will take place in time for the new open season.

It has been a long and sometimes arduous task for our Publicity and Development Officer, Alan Hall in his monumental efforts in raising the required funds – it goes without saying the development could not take place without his tireless efforts and the thanks of all Collingwood’s members go to Alan – Well Done Alan!

However, there are still events which we all look forward to, namely the outcome of our inter club competitions which are coming to a conclusion – the anticipation is building on who will be Collingwood’s Champions in 2018.

It goes without saying that the smooth running of the competitions and all of our club matches, friendly games with our sponsors etc, is down to the superb organisation of our club secretary Fabian Scott. Fabian’s quiet work in the background continues to keep Collingwood Bowling Club running smoothly throughout the season.

Members should be aware that Michael Wilson is roaming around at the moment – should you feel his hand on your shoulder, you may have been volunteered to assist in the covering of the green at the end of the season – Michael needs members who would be willing to assist in the filling of the hopper, the only requirement is the ability to handle a shovel – I understand he already has a Forman in ‘yours truly’ n.b. Members over 90 years of age are excused!

Many of our members do enjoy meeting throughout the closed season at our Saturday morning tea, coffee mornings. However, due to the re-building of the clubhouse, we shall be unable to hold them at the green. I understand that some discussion is taking place regarding the meetings – more news to follow.
