Won 11 ends.
Mat 1 Took control from the start with a 5 and were soon thinking that they may challenge for the highest scoring rink as they were 23-3 after 10 ends, some skilful shots by Hingham kept them down ,although a 6 on end 16 still made it possible, but was not to be as Mike for Hingham cut the shots down on the penultimate end and took the jack back to hold 2 on the last end. Won 14 ends

On Mat 1 had a tight game against Neil's block 5-5 after 7 ends and 8-8 after 11 ends some impressive woods by all 6 players kept this game tight, a 4,2 and a single on the 14,15 and 16 ends gave us the lead, and it was nail biting as a single and 3 against on the last to ends for the win by 1 shot, won 7 ends
Mat 2 leading 6-3 after 6 ends but the fell behind 8-10 after 11 ends, and 10-11 after 14 ends, but still in with a chance , but did not score any more and with a 5 dropped on the 16th virtually sealed the win for Carleton Rode, won 7 ends
After the break
Mat 1, 5-4 up after 5 ends ,looking to be another tight game and so it was, 10-11 down after 12 ends 12-11 up after 14 ends, 12-13 down after 16 ends ,2 singles too Carleton Rode left them 2 up with and end to play, the other mat had finished and with Owen needing to score to win the overall shots, and being 3 down,he drew shot with his first wood, Terry not quite making it, Owen was left with 1 wood to draw to make it 2 and a draw, but just fell short, won 8 ends
Mat 2 Took control taking a single on the first end and 5 on the second a single to Carleton Rode on the 5 end, Connaught 9-4 up after 8 ends , another 5 on end 9 put them in the driving seat and only lost 4 more ends and only by single shots, a single scored on the last end kept us just in front on shots, all 3 players played well and combined drawing with running woods, won 11 ends.
In what was a battle for 2nd place in the league Carleton Rode, although losing this match, kept 2nd place over Christmas as both teams have 69 points but Carleton Rode have a better shot difference.

Mat 2 Mike Parsons, Joe LiRocchi and Sheila Bragg lost to P.Saunders, B.Barker and J.Pye 7-29
Mat 1 started well with an exchange of scoring ends to be 5 all after 5 ends, a 2 to Wymondham saw them lead only for Connaught to score a triple to lead 8-7 with Connaught holding 3 or 4 Chris fired and took the jack off the mat, on the replay with only 1 Connaught wood in the head albeit holding shot, Chris had no hesitation in taking it out for a score of 5. Connaught took a single on the next end only to drop a 4 and 2 before rallying and taking 3 shots 12-18 after 12, a 4 and 3 to Wymondham effectively put the game out of reach but 2 singles and 2 two's on the last 4 ends helped the shot deficit. Dave led well Sylvia and Bob not quite up to their normal standards will feel disappointed. Connaught won 10 ends
Mat 2 Had a great tussle 5-5 after 7 ends 9-7 after 10 ends, 10-10 after 13 ends, Connaught just edged it taking 2 on the last end all played well, with Jon doing the damage to keep Wymondham in the game, Connaught won 8 ends with 1 no score.
Mat 1 Elaine again leading well with Jack and Lee consolidating were 8-3 after 3 ends 10-2 after 6 ends 17- 5 after 11 ends 21-8 after 16 ends, a dropped 3 and 4 on the last two ends made the score a bit more respectable for Wymondham. Connaught won 11 ends.
Mat 2 Completely out bowled by Wymondham and despite changing positions could not stop a rampant Wymondham. Connaught won 5 ends
CONNAUGHT A v CONNAUGHT B
Connaught A beat Connaught B away on Saturday 5th November 2016 75-45 and 10-0

Mat 2 Elaine Oatway, Jack Marshall and Lee Fallows beat M.Marlow, J.Winup and M.Southgate 24-9
On Mat 1 with what appeared to be a tentative start by the A team and some very good play by the B team players, we were 2-5 down after 7 ends, a single and a 3 put us in the lead only for the B to score 2 doubles to lead 9-6 after 11 ends. 8-10 down after 13 ends then an unfortunate choice of shot by Mike took his woods out leaving us with 4 and Bob to draw in for 5. we then took the next 3 ends to lead 19-10 and a dropped 3 on the last end
On mat 2 Owen's triple had a tough game 3-3 after 5 ends 6-6 after 10 ends 9-10 down after 15 ends and 13-10 up with an end to play, again the last end was lost but only by a single.
After the break
On mat 1 Sheila's triple were up against what was potentially the B teams best chance of scoring points and were in the lead up to the 7th end 7-8.12-12 after 13 ends showed how tight the game was, but the A dug in deep and scored on the remaining ends.
On mat 2 all played well and despite their best efforts the B team could not contain the A from scoring highly.
A well played match in good spirits and the A team determined not to repeat the result of last years meeting of the teams. A very good buffet and socialising after the game. thank you B team

CONNAUGHT A v HARLING UNICORNS

Mat 2 Mike Parsons, Joe LiRocchi and Richard Harrsison beat B.Knappett, E.Jones and R.Braham 16-10
On Mat 1 after scoring a single on the first end Connaught struggled against a very competent triple and despite scoring a 3 on end 5 found themselves 4-10 down after 7 ends, this prompted a change and Sylvia went to lead and they scored 6 shots over the next 3 ends a 3 to Harling on end 11 was as good as it got for the visitors as Connaught stepped up a gear and took the remaining ends for a good win, Connaught won 12 ends
On mat 2 they lost the first end by a single then took the next 4 ends to lead 4-1 then a drought of scoring as they lost 6 ends to be 4-10 down after 10 ends, fought back well to be 12-12 after 15 ends took a single to lead by 1 shot but dropped 2 on the penultimate end, a good shot by Owen took the jack back to a waiting Connaught wood and with the Harling skip just missing with his last wood the chance of a 2 and victory was waiting, but unfortunately for Connaught Owen was just short of drawing in for the 2 needed for a win and had to settle for the draw. Connaught won 8 ends.
After the break
On mat 1 losing the first 2 ends by a single and a pair then scored a 2 before dropping a 5, regaining control they scored 8 shots over the next 4 ends to lead 10-8 ,not to be out done Harling came back scoring the next 5 ends to lead 14-10, Connaught then rallied and took the remaining ends with 2 singles, 2 x2's and a 3. Connaught won 10ends.
On mat 2 again lost the first 2 ends then took a single, Harling took a single, Connaught took a 2, Harling replied with a 2, Connaught took 2 singles 5-5 after 8 ends, Harling took a single and a 2, 5-8 after 10 ends, Connaught started to dominate scoring 11 shots to 2. Connaught won 10 ends.
A good win against a very useful Harling Unicorn side. It was pleasing to see the Brahams have continued to play competitively after Wattons decision to withdraw from the Breckland league.
Connaught beat Hingham away on Monday10th October 76-57 and 8-2
Mat 1 Dave Quadling, Sylvia Parsons and Sheila Bragg beat J.Capel, G.Wilcox and E.Herbert 20-12
Mat 2 Di Quadling, Derek Liles and Owen Secker beat W.Tweed, G.Tweed and K. Thomas 20-17
Mat 1 Mike Parsons, Joe LiRocchi and Richard Harrison lost to C.Short, J.Higgs and J.Higgs 14-19
Mat 2 Elaine Oatway, Bob Oatway and Lee Fallows beat W.Townsend, P.Groombridge and M.White 22-9
On mat 1, which can be tricky with its swinging side, Connaught played well together to be 12-3 up after 7 ends and maintained the lead throughout winning 10 ends.
On mat 2 after a bad first end a 5 dropped they fought well to be 7-7 after 6 ends 8-8 after 8 ends then Connaught forged ahead to lead 14-8 after 11 ends, then came Hingham's revival where they scored 9 shots without reply to lead 17-14 after 15 ends, Connaught hit back with 2 x2's and it was down to the last end one ahead, some good bowls by Hingham saw them holding 2 shots, but with Connaught's bowls just behind, unfortunately for the Hingham skip he just nudged shot bowl in an attempt to get a back wood and we were holding 2 and a win. Connaught won 11 ends.
After the break
On mat 1Connaught could not quite master the mat against an excellent triple lead by John Higgs and found themselves 7-15 down after 11 ends, Joe changed places with Richard and a single and a 2 cut the deficit and the remaining ends were shared 4-4, with a very useful 3 picked up on the last end. Connaught scored 8 ends.
On mat 2 Elaine led well and with Bob having recovered well from a bad weekend of bowling and Lee on fine form dominated the game, a minor scare for the players happened on end 15 where Hingham held 4 with no Connaught Back woods, Bob attempted to open the head but put his first wood into the centre block and his next was just wide. Lee however made no such mistake and opened the head to send the jack near the ditch but still 4 down and drew in with his last wood for shot, a mightily relieved triple. A 3 and a 2 on the next ends ensured the win and Hingham scored consolation 2 on the last end. Connaught won 12 ends.
A very pleasing first win of the season. Well done all Connaught players.
