Copnor BC had insufficient playing members to fulfil its team fixtures in 2016.

It therefore withdrew its team entries from all competitions.

The club continued to be unable to register sufficient members and, at a vote of the members' EGM, was therefore disbanded on 22 April 2016.

The below information was that which existed at the time of the demise of Copnor BC.

We're [we were] a lawn bowls club based in Copnor, Portsmouth, at our Swordsands Green & Pavilion in Tangier Road, and we are [were] affiliated to the Portsmouth and District Bowling Association, to Bowls Hampshire and to Bowls England.

We field[ed] three teams in the Portsmouth & District Bowling Association (PDBA) leagues, and each of the three teams play[ed] weekly fixtures during the main season. League matches for two of our teams take [took] place in the evenings, and one team plays [played] in an 'afternoon' league. We also enter[ed] the PDBA Club and Bowls Hampshire County Club knockout competitions, and have [had] in-Club Competitions plus, on various weekends during the season, friendly matches against other Clubs from beyond our leagues. In addition, we have [had] regular informal practice sessions ('roll-ups') on Monday afternoons.

Our [former] green is open from early April to late September.

Copnor Bowls Club has [had] been established for over 100 years, from its beginnings before the First World War. Check our Club History page for more details.

We're [we were] located at the Swordsands Green, at the Eastern Road end of Tangier Road in Copnor. More details in our Contact page.

We have [had] a private car-park, plus additional on-road parking, and a modern recently-built pavilion, with a large main room and a fully fitted-out kitchen, plus mens, ladies and accessible toilets changing rooms. We have [had] a patio with bench seats, and cover for when it rains, and bench seats around the banks of the green. The car park, the location, and the pavilion are fully accessible, too, for those with impaired mobility, as is the bowling green itself – check our Accessibility page for details.

We welcome[d] contact by any Clubs visiting or touring, to discuss arranging a fixture, with refreshments if desired. Please use our Contact page.

We welcome[d] prospective new bowlers, whether you've played before and are now looking for a club, or if you're new to the game and would just like a 'taster'.

Feel free to [have] come along on Monday afternoons for an open practice session (a 'roll-up'). If you're new to the game, then all you'll [have] need[ed] is [was] a pair of flat-soled shoes (such as trainers, without a stepped sole – to prevent damage to the playing surface).

If you decide[d] to join us, there is [was] no joining fee for new Club Members; additionally, new members are [were] offered a 50% reduction on their first-year annual subscription ('season ticket') to the Association, plus a free club shirt.

Copnor Bowling Club is [was] a men's lawn bowls club, although we join[ed] with our colleagues in Moneyfields Ladies Bowls Club, with whom we share[d] the Swordsands Green & Pavilion, to [have] play[ed] in friendly matches, and alongside whom we also welcome[d] new bowlers (men and ladies).

Copnor Bowling Club, as part of the Swordsands Bowling Association, itself a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC), is proud to [have] declare[d] that it adheres [adhered] to the CASC values of being “open to the whole community, including people of all ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, religions or beliefs, sexes, ages and ability".
