Cottenham Bowls Club
Newsletter February 2017
To All Members
The evenings are slowly drawing out so it is time to think about the coming outdoor season!
First of all, congratulations to everyone who played in a league team last season as Cottenham had one of its most successful league seasons of all time as noted in my end of season newsletter. The captains would like to thank you all for your support and they are looking forward to playing with you again in 2017.
2017 Subs/Fees No joining fee for new members. Subs - full members £40 - Social members £5 - Full time students £10 – Guests £1 per game. Match fees - home and away games £2
Teams The availability sheets will be posted in the club house; please make sure that you tick against your name and date if you want to be considered for selection. If your name is not ticked, please do not moan that you are never selected!
Club Competitions Entry forms will be available at subs night and will also be emailed. Please make sure you return the form by the deadline!
Dress Code Check with your team captain before wearing shorts! Some clubs may set their own rules but must notify us in advance.
Teas Milton and Newnham have both decided to provide tea and biscuits only. Your committee have decided that we will continue to provide a bowls tea to all visiting clubs including Milton and Newnham.
Recreation Ground We now have a licence from the Parish Council in order to use the green.
We have also been advised that they intend to extend the parking area during the course of the summer.
Coaching David Stearn and Les Howe have both been accepted to attend a two day coaching course at Chesterton in the spring. The club has paid for these but should get 75% of the fee back in grants from County Bowls and Bowls England.
Volunteers needed We have one of the best greens in the County due to the efforts of a small band of volunteers; we can always use more help so, if you can spend some time helping, however briefly, please let me know.
The Green The green is looking great, and a few more mild February days will work wonders. The big team effort at the end of last season has been very successful plus the continued grooming through the winter by Barry, Fred, Ray, Trevor, Bernard and Les..
Website Don’t forget that we have a club website
Thanks to Eric for keeping it up to date.
Other business. Fen Edge Association. We joined the Fen Edge Association last season as a means of publicising the club. They invited us to apply for a grant if we needed any new equipment. We applied for £1000 to purchase a defibrillator and I am very pleased to announce that we were successful; Barry has found a supplier with a special offer running so we have been able to purchase a top of the range fully automatic machine.
Club kit supplier. Barry has also found a new supplier of club kit including a shirt at £18.67 and a rain jacket at £ 27.86 both less 10% if we buy four or more and these will be on display at the subs evening.
