Vision Screening

Crewe Lions Club Vision Screening

Lions of MD 105 CN and Crewe Lions Club have been tasked  to continue being Knights of The Blind.  We are looking to launch vision screening in schools, through partnership working with Local authorities .  Vision Screening will be done through using vision cameras, with Lions trained to use the equipment.

Lions Child Sight UK vision screening project begins!!

Vision screening is a key part of early detection of eyesight problems. With children it helps ensure they can receive effective treatment promptly to reduce the risk of loss of sight, completely or partially.

Lion Stu Young, vision screening lead, launched Lions Child Sight UK vision screening project on 12th March 2024 at the Lions Day with the United Nations in the Palace of Westminster.

The next day a team of Lions - including third International Vice President Lion Mark Lyon and Lion Lyn - visited Lyons Hall Primary School to begin screening. A total of 309 students took part with 14 recommend to see an optician urgently. Of the 34 staff screened, five were also advised to get further checks.

The screening camera looks at the mechanics of  each eye. It is a quick and easy way to screen many young people in a short time period. Lions will receive full training before they can use the cameras for screening.

Ten years after an initial vision and thanks to the hard work and dedication of PID Lion Phil Nathan, many obstacles have been overcome. This means that the first phase of the project will begin in District CE over the next few months before a roll out across the British Isles.

Crewe Lions 5 in total have recently engaged with initial training to use the cameras and have a meeting with Local MP in March 2026 to raise his awareness of the need for this service and get his support with entering the reception level of schools in Crewe.
