CUSOP PLAYING FIELD

The playground behind Coronation Terrace is open but, as it is not supervised and the equipment is not regularly cleaned, the Parish Council is asking users to:

  • Ensure that children are supervised by a family member or carer.
  • Clean and sanitise your children’s hands before and after using the playground.
  • Keep at least 2 metres away from members of other households.
  • At busy times think of others and limit how long you stay. 

Please treat the facilities with care and respect and take your rubbish home.

The Parish Council reserves the right to re-close the playing field if government safety guidelines are breached or if there is a local outbreak of Coronavirus.

PEDESTRIANISATION OF HAY TOWN CENTRE

The main shopping streets of Hay will be closed to all vehicles except deliveries and Blue Badge holders from 11am to 4pm. Powys County Council (after some consultation with Hay Town Council) have decided to introduce this to enable social distancing between people moving about and those queueing outside shops. The roads that will affected are:

  • Castle Street  - including The Memorial Car Park
  • Castle Lane (the little cut-through from the launderette road to the Memorial car park)
  • Lion Street (from the clocktower to Tomatitos) 
  • St John Place (from Kilverts to Tomatitos) 
  • High Town (the road past the Post Office)

BESPOKE, HIGH-QUALITY FACE MASKS FOR £5

As you all know, we are now going to have to wear masks in shops (at least in England, but with the likelihood that Wales will follow their lead) as well as on public transport and in hospitals.

Penny Winter has found a very good pattern for face masks that can be made to fit the size of your face. She uses high quality batik fabric and Egyptian cotton sheeting with a double layer of non-woven interlining plus a nose wire to ensure a close fit (especially good for those of us who wear glasses as it helps to stop them fogging up). Penny is charging just £5 per mask - a fantastic price for a mask of this quality. The proceeds will go to St Mary's church to be used as a donation to a charity (probably the Hereford food bank).

URGENT PLEA FROM HEREFORD FOOD BANK

The food bank is experiencing unprecedented demand at the moment and needs your contributions. Donations can now be left in the box at the front door of Cusop Village Hall and will be collected every Wednesday. All non-perishable food items and toiletries are welcomed, especially  tinned meat, jam, pasta, small jars of coffee and sugar, which are running particularly low. Supplies of clean plastic carrier bags would also be welcome to use when they make deliveries to their clients.

In the week ending 6th May a staggering 31 bags were collected across the 8 parishes in the Borderlink Benefice.  Thanks to everyone for their generosity. 

CUSOP CHURCHYARD

The gates into Cusop churchyard have now been fixed open so that people can go and wander in the peace and tranquility of our beautiful churchyard without having to touch the gates. Many thanks to Celia Cundale for sorting this. 

TAKE CARE WHEN OPENING YOUR LETTERS & PARCELS 

One potential source of infection that you might not have thought of is the post. Letters/parcels/etc will have been handled by many people raising the risk that one of the handlers will have an infection.  So handle the envelope/packaging with care and bin it before immediately washing your hands. The contents, in general, will have been touched by fewer people and so there's less risk - with thanks to our local microbiologist for this!

TAKE CARE WHEN USING GATES AND STILES

When you're out walking, it's best not to touch gates and stiles with your bare hands in case you then touch your face. Many people will have touched that gate or stile before you and the virus lasts a long time on shiny surfaces like metal. Try and find a way to use gates and stiles safely using something disposable like a stick or a wipe.
